Redesigning Data to Reduce Disparities

Overview

The UW CoLab (previously SAJE) is excited to be collaborating with the Washington State Partnership Council on Juvenile Justice (WA-PCJJ) and the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) to assess how to invest in better development, distribution, and use of data pertaining to disparities in juvenile arrest and referral in Washington State by county, and where available, city. The aim is to see how to make this data user-focused and how to present and share information in a manner that supports local decision-making.

Status

The CoLab team is currently conducting surveys with decisionmakers across systems (law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, public health officials, school administrators) to better understand how juvenile arrest and referral data is currently being used to fuel decision-making. Our next step is to engage key stakeholders in contextual inquiry to understand how decisionmakers are currently accessing and using juvenile arrest and referral data.

Funding

The King County Redesigning Data to Reduce Disparities Project is funded by the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) in Washington State.
